Spring is Springing!

We will be holding an Open Water Refresher this Saturday from 10:00-2:00 in Lancaster County Park on the Conestoga River. We will be doing a “park and play” session under the Strawberry St. Bridge.
group_crossing_lineYou must have been previously endorsed at Level 2 or higher to participate in this refresher as we will be concentrating on ferrying, back-ferrying, eddy turns, peel-outs, attaining, surfing, and – should we have the time and desire, working with throw bags. The water is up, so the current should be conducive for a good workout.
The air temperature will be warmer than average, but the water will be C-O-L-D still (last check at the gage showed 41 degrees). I will be bringing dry suits which, if you are participating, you will be required to wear. That way you can enjoy the cold weather kayaker’s syndrome – sweating like a mule while paddling in water that gives you brain-freeze like a milkshake eaten too quickly should you flip.
Be sure to bring a change of clothes and towel, a NON-COTTON thermal base layer (like polypropylene or other hydro-wicking thermals), water and something for lunch.
Email me that you are coming, what gear you might need, and, if you have a preferred boat. I’ll have the trailer so we will have a changing room.
And, don’t forget we have a pool session that evening from 5:45-8:00 at Hempfield Rec! Busy day in a boat.
Have a great day and hope to see you soon.
