Bill’s Back from the Facebook Zone

Hello again – it has been a while since I’ve blogged on our site and I wanted to take this opportunity to re-engage with you all via the website, and explain why you won’t be seeing me on Facebook.

Bill hamming it up at Lake Williams in York, PA.

As most of you know, I live with PTSD – talking about it is part of my therapy. It influences most parts of my life, from how I work to how I sleep to how I paddle. Lately, I have noticed that after I finished looking through Facebook posts and comments, I would be keyed up, hypervigilant, unfocused. It took me a while to see it, but it is there.

Those of you who followed me on the platform probably saw that my comments could get rather dark, uncharacteristically so. That’s something I have to own. So, instead of continuing the descent into that endless spiral of anger and hatred I found myself in, I decided to pull the plug.

I know that we in Team River Runner communicate a lot through Facebook and that this could cause a problem. Don’t despair – the Susquehanna Valley TRR page is still active and will be managed by Jenn Eaton, our Chapter Secretary.

I will be moving my communications to this blog and will be paying much closer attention to the website. I will be making sure our schedule of events is up to date and will get back into (more regular) blog posts.

I am NOT saying Facebook is bad…it was simply bad for me. For my own mental health and healing, I have chosen to disengage from that platform and don’t plan to return.

Please feel free to contact me any time by email (Bill.Butler@TeamRiverRunner.org), Facebook Messenger (staying active there), or text/phone call (IM me if you don’t have it).

Thanks for your support as I move forward with my healing and I will see you soon on the water.

Bill
