The First Annual KAOS State Adventure Weekend will be held August 24-26, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp in Mt. Union Pennsylvania.
This unique program teaches students who are blind or vision impaired, along with their families, how to safely kayak as a family activity. This weekend adventure is available to any student ages 8-18 years living in Pennsylvania who are blind or vision impaired along with their families. Any attending family members / guardians over the age of 18 will learn how to safely guide the student during one day of training on a lake and one really fun day on a calm and beautiful section of the Juniata River.
There is no cost for the kayak lessons, use of gear or the river trip. However, there is a fee involved that includes one night lodging, five meals and the use of the Beacon Lodge facilities. We were able negotiate a significantly reduced rate with Beacon Lodge to make this event even more accessible. With current donations in hand, we are now able to sponsor each KAOS paddler (blind or vision impaired student aged 8-18) at no cost. The updated fee structure is:
- KAOS Paddler: FREE (was $142)
- KAOS Paddler and Guide: $90 (was $284)
- Family of four (including one KAOS paddler): $270 (was $568)
SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE on a first-come, first served basis and are based on financial need.
